I received my art degree from Kepzomuveszeti Foiskola in Szeged, Hungary in 1985. My hobbies include watercolor, faux painting, murals and stenciling, interior design, cross stitching, photography, and gardening/landscaping.

Faux Painting to Simple Colors

Painting colors

It's amazing what one can do with paint: a small amount of color and design can completely transform a room. One of the challenging aspects of faux design is that the possibilities are infinite. There is no set of skills and techniques you can learn and thereby call yourself an expert. Each room is unique and each job requires integrating all the elements of the room into a well designed whole: from the carpet, to the trim, fixtures, and furniture--everything should be considered before any paint finds its way to the walls. If you would like to see some example styles, look at my portfolio or search the web for faux styles such as ragging, sponging, murals, strie, stencils, and so on. The Design Tools links at the left should get you started.

Painting is Interior Decorating

sponging painting I've always enjoyed interior design and decorating, and any painting job begins with taking a look at the space, the spaces it's connected to, furnishings, and existing decor. Even choosing basic colors first begins with stepping back and taking a look at the big picture. What is the ultimate goal? Do you want a typical spec-house off white look or do you want a custom showpiece? There is an infinite number of options in between.

Before I start, I try to work with the customer to figure out what their vision is. If they don't have one, we can work together to create an interior that is right for the person that's going to live there. Ultimately, both the owner and the painter have to share the same vision in order to arrive at an end that is satisfying. It starts with an anaylysis of the space, picking colors and color combinations, examining styles in books and examples, creating some demo boards, then just doing it.

Exterior Decorating

landscaping Faux landscaping? Well, I guess there is such a thing. However, I use real rocks and timbers and plants to decorate the canvas for any house or cabin.

I bring to my gardening the same eye for design and aesthetics that I bring to interiors. I love plants. I try to make sure they are happy by giving them a nice place to live. In return, they give me a nice place to live. I've gardened in several states and countries, so I've had some experience in diverse climates. I'm looking forward to making some beautiful "faux exteriors" in the coming months and years. It's also amazing how many natural wild flowers seem to pop out of nowhere in the summer.

Not Just Rooms

The search for truth is in one way hard and in another way easy, for it is evident that no one can master it fully or miss it wholly. But each adds a little to our knowledge of nature, and from all the facts assembled there arises a certain grandeur. -- Aristotle

To the artist there is never anything ugly in nature. -- Auguste Rodin

What is art? Nature concentrated. -- Honore de Balzac
